When he was non-tendered by Chicago earlier this month, pitcher Mark Prior elicited a pretty good amount of interest. Everyone wanted the pitcher with the ace stuff and the glass arm as a reclamation project. The San Diego Padres announced a one-year deal with the 26-year old Prior. He is due to earn a base salary of $1M with up to $3.5M in incentives, largely based on the number of starts he makes.
The rich just keep getting richer. Or is it the rich just keep getting pitchers? Sorry, that was bad. Prior is from the San Diego area, and if you’re a pitcher trying to get back on track for a big contract, there’s not a better park to go to than PETCO, I guess. Is that why there are so many recovering pitchers there?
