You can get some great trade, free agent and waiver wire deals by claiming a player just before he comes back from injury. For a pitcher, unless they’re utterly dominating hitters in rehab, you might want to give them a game or two on the bench to make sure they’re healthy before sticking them in.

Who to acquire

Chris Duncan, OF. Duncan’s questionable right now, but should recover from his hamstring injury. He’s been teasing fantasy owners with a 15.2 AB/HR ratio the past two years. That’s pretty elite power, but La Russa likes to use him only against right-handed pitching. This year, the lack of depth out there could result in more AB for this guy.

Drop ‘em like they’re hot

Kelly Johnson, 2B. Johnson’s knee is feeling better, and he should return in a few days, but he has been battling this thing all spring. I’d downgrade my expectations for this season to about .270-80-12-55-5 for him.

Randy Johnson, SP. Johnson struggled in his minor league start this week, and at almost 42 years old, probably won’t bounce back quickly. Use your roster spot on a young arm instead, like Edinson Volquez or Dana Eveland.
