Fausto Carmona strained his hip while covering first base this week, and will go on the 15-day DL. This is more likely a precautionary measure than anything else, as he was first listed as day-to-day. They also optioned reliever Jensen Lewis to Triple-A to work out a few mechanical issues.

Another collision, another injured middle infielder. This time it’s the Rockies’ Clint Barmes. He will spend 15 days on the DL, and prospect Ian Stewart will be called on to fill the significant void left by the injured Troy Tulowitski. Stewart raked in the minors, and was a third baseman before being shifted to the middle infield this season. His defense won’t dazzle anyone, but he could be a decent (temporary) fantasy option.
