The Yankees now have reason to hate interleague play. Starter Chien-Ming Wang injured his foot while running the bases (of all things) in a 13-0 rout on Sunday, and he has gone on the DL for a long time. Now it appears that his season could potentially be over; The Disabled List Informer has the details. Considering how the rotation is already hanging by a thread, this could mean a big move by New York by the deadline.

Injuries: Smoltz done, possibly forever

Bad juju for the Braves and fantasy owners alike: John Smoltz is going to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

Dump him now, and Rafael Soriano and Manny Acosta become must-owns in every league.

Waiver Wire: May pickups

Here are the best performers from May who might still be available in your free agents pool:

BABIP bouncebacks: Swisher, Giambi, Beltre

Injuries: Ortiz, Zimmerman

David Ortiz has been placed on the DL with a partial tear of a tendon sheath in his left wrist. It doesn’t look good, and it is estimated he will miss at least a month with the injury. A Closer Look: Percival down, Wheeler in

Troy Percival will miss some time with a left hamstring sprain. Those of you in need of a boost in saves, pick up Dan Wheeler right away. He was a free agent in three of my four leagues, two days ago.

Percy should be back in a couple of weeks, but given his age, it could take a while for him to be fully healthy. Joe Maddon insists it’ll be a committee-type arrangement, but Wheeler seems to be the first option for now.

No more injury updates

MLB is setting new records with all the injuries this year. From now on, FantasyScope will only post significant injuries that impact fantasy leagues via a sleeper or a potential trade. This will allow posts to focus more on statistical analysis and other aspects of the game.

I refer owners to The Disabled List Informer, a great fantasy injury resource.
