FantasyScope Yahoo! Keeper League has a few spots

March 3, 2009 redsoxtalk Leave a comment

Hi, our Yahoo! Keeper League has a few vacancies for this season.  It is a standard 5×5 roto league with daily transactions. Please email me at redsoxtalk [at] gmail [dot] com if you are interested.

As of now there is no buy-in (it’s a for-fun league), but we may decide to pay for the premium services, which would be around $10-11/team or something like that.

Pardon our dust

You might notice that the site is looking a little different. It’s high time we did a redesign of this site. I am reorganizing posts into just a few simple categories to make it easier to navigate, and we are going to focus the posts much more narrowly.

Hope you enjoy it!

2009 Offseason: Phillies ink Ibanez, Rule 5, potential non-tenders

Ibanez signs with Philadelphia

Ruben Amaro, Jr. has found his replacement for Pat Burrell in Raul Ibanez. The Phillies agreed with him on a 3-year deal worth $30M. He doesn’t have Burrell’s power, he’s not exactly cheap, and he costs them their first-rounder next year. Adam Dunn is better, currently undervalued and wouldn’t have cost them the draft pick. I’m sort of scratching my head over this one. At least he’s more durable.

Ibanez: .287/.356/.485 with 25 HR and 114 RBI in 614 AB

Dunn: .258/.391/.546 with 42 HR and 100 RBI in 536 AB

Mets pull off three-team blockbuster

Omar Minaya, not satisfied with the signing of Francisco Rodriguez, acquired former Seattle closer J.J. Putz as part of a blockbuster deal involving three teams and 12 players. They also received outfielder Jeremy Reed and pitcher Sean Green in the deal. Reed is a defensive outfielder who will be a good 4th outfielder, and Green will be a decent middle reliever if his control improves.

2009 Offseason: Arbitration offers

December 2, 2008 redsoxtalk Leave a comment

MLB Trade Rumors lists the 24 players who were offered arbitration yesterday by their teams. They have until Dec 7 to accept the offers or else signing them will require extra compensation on the part of the signing team. Clearly teams are more budget-conscious this offseason, with some big names not being offered arbitration. That should make them more attractive to signing teams, and I expect a good deal more activity this week on the free agent market.

MLBTR also has an up-to-date free agents list here.
